Doesn’t time fly? See enclosed photo from the first youth male Irish cycling squads (Talent Team 2020) of the Cycling Ireland High performance coaching development programme in October 2011.
Also in the photo is the Cycling Ireland development Coaches Martin O Loughlin and Frank O Leary who have worked very hard and with great success over the last years to develop riders.
U23 Tour of Flanders
Today three of the boys in the Photo are now young men who are racing with the best cyclists in the World in Saturdays U23 tour of Flanders.
They are Michael O Loughlin – Matt Taggert – and David Montgomery.
Female Talent Team development.
It’s similar for the Cycling Ireland female Talent 2020 Squads which began at the same time and have also been really well lead by Orla Hendron and Nicola mc Kiveraghan..
Manx International Grand Prix Feminin.
On Sunday next Ciara Doogan and Emily Birchall, who have made the Journey through the Womens Talent 2020 team will take part in a major International elite event.
This is in the Isle of Man, with a World Class field, the Manx International Grand Prix Feminin.
Expertise Good Coaching Counts
Both of these squads have had input from many other people as well. Over the years the coaches brought lots of different people with expertise in various areas to training camps to educate the cyclists.
It’s great to see the High performance development coaching work producing excellent well rounded riders. They all demonstrate good levels of physical, mental, and technical competencies.
New Talent teams
We should also note that as well as the riders mentioned there are others who have been successfully developed through the High Performance coaching development programmes.
There are also a new groups of cyclists currently on the pathway of the Irish cyclists who are racing at World level this weekend
Keep it going!
Well done to everyone involved and best wishes for this weekends races. Keep it going Cycling Ireland!.
Whatever you do, prioritise support to these programmes and their coaches to maintain this great progress.
